Don't Get Choked By Credit Card Fees
If you have ever forgotten to return a DVD rental to the store on time, you will know the annoyance of being charged late fees. Every dollar you spend on late fees of any kind is a dollar wasted. When it comes to credit cards, such as the range of cards offered by Bendigo Bank, the fees can really hurt.
If your Bendigo Bank credit card has a minimum repayment of more than $25 and you don't pay it within 30 days of the due date, you will be hit with a Credit Card Default Fee of $15.
It pays to be organised when it comes to your credit card. In addition to late fees, Bendigo Bank will charge a fee of $27.50 if you spend over your credit card limit. To make matters worse, this fee is charged every day that you spend with your card while your balance remains over the limit. So if you have gone over your Bendigo credit card limit without realising and continue to use your card, you could be charged this fee several times.
Even paper attracts fees at Bendigo Bank. If you need a written statement of your Bendigo accounts, you will be charged an Audit Request fee of $40. Lost your statement and need another copy? You can expect to pay a Statement Replacement fee of $5 per page.
These fees are all in addition to the regular account maintenance and annual credit card fees charged by Bendigo, such as the $85 annual fee for the Bendigo Gold credit card.
There are some simple ways to avoid seeing your cash slip through your hands and into the hands of Bendigo Bank. You can reduce the number of cards you have, which will save on annual fees and allow you to keep a closer eye on your spending. You should also keep all of your bank records in a safe place to avoid administration fees for extra statements.
The best way to save on credit card fees is to stop using credit and switch to an alternative such as Bendigo Blue Visa Debit Card. This allows you to spend in the same way as you would with a credit card but instead of relying on credit you access your own funds.
